Why Buy A Stand Up Paddleboard What Can You Do With It

A SUP is a great way to get out and enjoy the water without a ton of work. These boards can usually be carried and launched by a single person, as well as transported by most cars. Many of the more beginner-friendly have practically zero learning curve and will have novice paddlers cruising around within an hour or so. Touring and race models have excellent glide performance, allowing you to travel surprisingly long distances, while some models are highly maneuverable, making them suitable for surfing. SUPs are a great way to make the most of your day out on the lake or ocean.
However, these boards don’t handle rough waters and high winds all that well, meaning that beginners should stick to flat waters and calm days when starting out and always wear a lifejacket or other Personal Floatation Device . Speaking of PFDs, it’s also a prudent idea to check local laws and regulations for your area to see which may apply to your new SUP. You may be obliged to wear or carry a PFD, light, or whistle, and to avoid specific areas. Paddleboards do count as a vessel in most jurisdictions, so you are usually bound by the safety regulations relevant to boating. Now that you are set on getting a paddleboard, it’s time to narrow down the fleet of possible choices to the type that will best suit you.

Analysis And Test Results
We took all of the results from each of those individual tests and evaluations and divided them into five weighted rating metrics: Glide Performance, Stability, Maneuverability, Ease of Transport, and Durability. Each board received a subscore in each metric, and each metric is weighted proportionally to its overall significance. While we think the weightings are spot-on for an average paddler, you will want to pay particular attention to how each board performs in the metrics that you care most about, such as if you value stability or ease of transport above all else.

Make Sure Youre Facing The Right Direction
This may seem like the most obvious thing in the world but for those who are new to paddleboarding, its an important reminder. If youre not sure, thats okay, what better time to learn than now.
Take a look at your board and find the fins. If you are riding the board correctly, the fins will be at the back of the board. This will help you to paddle more easily.
If your fins are at the front of the board you will be fighting against the waves and your board will be fighting against you, making you more likely to fall off the board when you try to catch a wave.
The fins are used for something called tracking which keeps the board straight when you are paddling and helps you to holding on to the wave once you catch it,

Falls Happen Proper Falling Is Important
Everyone falls of their board from time to time. It doesnt matter if you have been paddleboarding for ten minutes or ten years, falls are unavoidable. However, you can help yourself to avoid getting seriously injured if you will simply learn to fall properly.
Paddleboards are not soft plushy pillows so they can hurt pretty badly if you fall on them or you get hit with them after you fall. The most important thing to remember is to fall away from your board.
If you fall on the board or the fin, it can cause serious injury and no one wants that to happen.
Though it is so much more fun to practice tricks and catching waves, it is probably a good idea to practice wiping out a couple of times, too.
When you think you are going to fall, think fast and fall away from the board and in the opposite direction that the board will be pushed by the waves.
If you are using the leash like you are supposed to, you wont have to worry about losing your board because it cant go far if its attached to you.
