We found Amazon.com to have the best prices on all inflatable kayaks including the Intex Challenger K2 Kayak. to check it out.

It is designed for use on slow-moving rivers and lakes. Since it has a low profile, it is not advisable to carry it into very strong ocean currents or white water rapids. The entire kit also includes a paddle, footrest, inflatable seat, carrying case, patch kit, and pump.

What Are Some Of Intex Challenger K2’s Downsides

Intex Challenger is a right kayak. Nevertheless, I have a few issues with it that I’ll briefly discuss here.

First and foremost, I am questioning why Intex had to give Challenger K2 a touch of black color. The bright green color is perfect. Therefore, Intex Challenger K2 would have been highly visible if it was green throughout. Black color only defeats the visibility that green gives and makes Intex Challenge K2 not very visible in murky or greenish waters.

Second, the paddles of Intex Challenger K2 aren’t great. I appreciate the fact that they’re light and comes with ergonomic handles. However, their blades aren’t too sharp and don’t provide an adequate amount of force every time you paddle. This is why I recommend you to buy a separate paddle upon buying Intex Challenger K2.

Lastly, it would have been great if Intex Challenger K2 comes with lots of repair patches. The repair patches that come with this product aren’t that numerous. You might have to buy additional repair patches because the free repair patches that come with Intex Challenger K2 don’t stick and last for long.

What Did We Like About How Its Made

  • Rugged vinyl construction The thick, 30 gauge vinyl plastic is pretty durable and can withstand getting knocked and minor scrapes. Avoid very sharp objects though. Its also UV resistant to protect it from the sun.
  • Adjustable inflatable seats The seats and integrated backrests are adjustable to make it a bit more comfortable. While this is a two-person kayak, you can choose to only install one seat if you are using it alone.
  • Inflatable I-beam floor The unique inflatable I-beam floor adds rigidity, stability, and durability.
  • Two air chambers The two air chambers improve the safety and reliability of the kayak, as well as making setup simple.
  • Boston valves The large, rugged Boston valves make inflation and deflation of the kayak fast and easy.

How To Use The Intex Challenger K2 Kayak

The New Intex Challenger K2 Two-Man Kayak

Setup on the Challenger K2 is fast and easy, and detailed inflation instructions are in the owners manual. There are two valves, each numbered in the order that they should be inflated. Next to each valve is a measuring line, to check against the included ruler for proper inflation. The kayak should never be over- or under-inflated. Total setup takes less than 10 minutes with the included high-output pump.

To see how it works, YouTuber Camp Life bushcraft shows his setup of the Intex Challenger K2 here:

Unfortunately, he simply tests proper inflation with his hand, rather than using the included strips, but its a good overview of how the process works and lets you know what to expect.

When you receive the Challenger K2, you should open the box and unpack and inflate the kayak, just to make sure everything is there and you understand how to use it, and to check for leaks. That way you can avoid disappointment when you are ready to take it out on the water.

First Fix: Hole Not In The Seam

These kayaks do come with a repair kit. The repair kit includes a quick-fix, temporary patch and some plastic patches which require special glue.

Inflatable kayak repair kit. You will need:

Heres what youll need for this inflatable kayak repair kit.

If youve lost the patches you can buy the following substitutes:

Step 1: Identify the location of the hole

First, youve got to find where the hole in your Intex Challenger kayak is. This is usually fairly obvious as youll hear air hissing out and itll stop when you put your finger over it. If you kayak is fully deflated you may want to inflate it slightly to make it easier to identify where the hole is.

You can get a wet sponge and wipe it over the area you think the hole is in. Some small bubbles will appear when youve found the hole.

Step 2: Clean & dry the area

Next up you need to clean and dry the area around the hole. Ideally, you should always wash down your kayaks after use but sometimes this isnt possible .

Step 3: Apply the patch

If youre using the temporary patch mid-kayak then just dry the area with the hole and peel off the backing for the patch. Then place the patch over the hole and smooth the edges. Leave this for at least 30 minutes before you take the kayak out again.

Cons Of Theintex Challenger K2 Inflatable Kayak

On the other hand, with length of only 11.5 feet and a beam that measures 30 inches, this kayak is extremely slow by touring kayak standards but, it also has a high degree of initial stability and thus, it is a good choice for the budget mined paddler who is looking for a recreational kayak that is easy to store and transport.

On the other hand, it has to be inflated before each use and then deflated after each use which takes time away from your time on the water and, due to its inflatable nature, steering this particular kayak can be a real challenge for inexperienced paddlers since it seems to have a small weight distribution problem that causes it to want to move in a circular pattern even with the removable skeg attached.

But, because the skeg is removable, it can come off during use and, Intex does not sell replacement skegs! Plus, although the relatively tight fit around the paddlers hips does help with control and maneuverability, the lack of even fixed foot braces makes this kayak somewhat difficult to control especially in windy conditions.

Therefore, it is best limited to paddling on ponds and lakes where the water is usually calm and, is not well suited for river or ocean use.

How To Repair Intex Challenger K2 Kayak With A Hole In The Seam

Intex K2 Challenger Kayak 2 Man Inflatable Canoe with Oars #68306 1 ...

Given how cheap the Intex Challenger K2 kayaks are its not that surprising that they get some small holes in them. I think the holes in ours are more to do with how we store them than running over something in the water. Since we live in an apartment we always fold our kayaks up and put them back in their storage bags . If you were able to leave yours more loosely folded and clean I dont think theyd be as prone to holes.

There are a couple of ways to fix Intex inflatable kayaks. The first is if the hole isnt in the seam and the second works great if your Intex Challenger Kayak has a hole in the seam or anywhere!

Heres how to patch an inflatable kayak depending on where the holes are and everything you need to make your own kayak puncture repair kit.

Intex Challenger K1 Kayak Assembly

Intex Challenger K1 kayak inflation is easy and takes a typical paddler less than 10 minutes. The boat features two one-way Boston valves, one to inflate the hull and the other for the deck. The seat inflates with two smaller valves, which must be sealed quickly to keep air from escaping.

An inflatable foot rest is slid into the bow of the kayak to brace your feet. Intex Challenger K1 kayak skeg removal and installation is easy simply slide the plastic fin into the track on the stern of the kayak.

After a day on the water you may ask, how to collapse my Intex Challenger K1 kayak? The process is easy, just open up the valves to deflate. Make sure you rinse your kayak and allow it to dry thoroughly before long-term storage.

Review Of The Intex Challenger K2 On The Water

Once setup its very easy to put the kayak on the water. However, some carry handles at the stern and bow would be very useful. Most of the inflatables we know have these kinds of handles and we dont really want to miss them anymore. So, we had to use the string at the thin ropes and the back and front to carry the kayak.

If you have got some experience with inflatable kayaks, you will also notice that the material is not as thick as used for high-quality inftlables. So, the boat skin cant be very resistant and solid. Therefore, you should really try to avoid any contact with the ground. Be also careful outside with the kayak that there are no sharp stones or branches on the ground.

The Challenger K2 has a reasonable speed for a beginner kayak with a relatively low air pressure. The directional stability is also provided by the skeg. Paddling too fast results into a quite wobbly experience. Compared to other kayaks, the Challenger K2 reacts quite slowly to changes of the direction. It requires some strong paddle strokes from the paddler in the back.

The Intex Challenger offers enough space for two adults and some luggage. The cargo net is a huge benefit on the water because its very easy to access on the water as well.
