Georgia Aquarium’s Journey With Gentle Giants
The Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta has both a dive and a swim program for visitors who want to jump into the water and get up close and personal with whale sharks. Divers must be certified of course, but the swimming option is open to pretty much anyone. During the swim program you’ll stay on the surface, observing the creatures from above, while divers can plumb the depths of the tank, getting much closer to massive animals.
The Aquarium is home to a host of impressive sea life, including seals, sharks, dolphins, beluga whales, penguins, and more. It is a place that will delight visitors of all ages.
The Atlantis Aquarium The Forum Shops At Caesars Palace
The Atlantis Aquarium is the first big fish aquarium I ever saw in Las Vegas. The first time I saw it was long before we moved here. Wendy and I were newlyweds and by then she was more than aware of my love of saltwater fish tanks. Shed spent more time in Las Vegas over the years than I had and the first time we were in Vegas together she insisted on showing me this tank. I was not disappointed!
The Atlantis Aquarium is a 50,000 gallon saltwater aquarium located in the middle of the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace. There are over 300 large and colorful fish swimming their way around the tank. The fish species include pufferfish, triggerfish, tangs, sharks and rays as well as many more.
The tank is round which I really enjoy because you can walk completely around it and see the aquarium from every angle. Also, the tropical fish are able to continuously swim without swimming to one end of the tank turning around and swimming to the other end like most rectangular aquariums.
Twice a day at 1:15pm and again at 5:15pm a diver enters the tank and you can watch them feed the fish which is really fun to see. There is also a free guided tour of the aquarium facilities located below the tank Monday thru Fridays at 3:15pm.
Right next to the aquarium is the Fall of Atlantis Fountain Show. This is an impressive 7 minute show with talking animatronic characters, flames, special effects and even a dragon. The show plays at the top of every hour starting at 11am.

Locations Click Those Diver Pins
For much of the information, I contacted the aquariums directly. So, not only is the information even more extensive than what is presented on their sites its also up-to-date. My sources were the aquarium websites, emails and phone calls to the facilities, reviews on scuba discussion boards, and other online resources.
International Aquarium Diving options will be covered fully in another article, as will a list of aquariums offering opportunities to serve as a dive volunteer. Subscribe to receive notifications of new articles!
For those who want to jump straight to the statistics and start dreaming about diving no matter the weather here they are. A more thorough description of each aquariums scuba diving experience follows.
One location is included because formerly they were well-known for their diving option. Although they do not currently offer diving, they are listed here in order for anyone wondering why they are not on this list to have the most up-to-date information.

Where Is The Aquarium
The Shark Reef Aquarium is at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino. The address is 3950 S. Las Vegas Blvd, Las Vegas, Nevada 89119.
Youll find the aquarium entrance inside the hotel next to the South Convention Center and Food Court. And Im going to warn you now the walk to the aquarium takes a long time!
It took us about 15 to 20 minutes to get there from the parking garage. And, there arent any Shark Reef signs above you in the casino area to guide your way either.
So the first thing youll need to do is find your way to the restaurant corridor. And then, from there, youll have directional signs overhead thatll lead you to the aquarium.
Snorkel Or Dive Into The Downtown Aquarium In Denver Colorado
The Downtown Aquarium offers several diving programs, including “Swim With The Fish,” “Dive With The Sharks,” “Underwater Photography,” and “Adventure Dives.” Visitors can take scuba classes with A-1 Scuba Colorado to get a scuba diver certification as well, which includes two aquarium dives as part of the curriculum. That’s not bad when you consider how far Denver is located from the nearest ocean.

The Tank Shark Tank Swimming Pool At The Golden Nugget
This killer design is known as The Tank at the Golden Nugget Casino in downtown Las Vegas. Its a three-story 200,000 gallon shark aquarium with a waterslide running through the middle of the tank.
This is a seriously cool, $30 million dollar aquarium and pool complex. At the top, it looks like a waterslide youd find at any waterpark but as you rush down the slide the sides turn clear as you enter the shark tank. Suddenly youre surrounded on all sides by huge fish and even bigger sharks! Now thats my definition of fun!
If waterslides arent your thing then you may be happier sitting poolside in a comfy lounge chair or swanky cabana just watching these predators swim silently in their massive tank. Theres also a nice waterfall and a bar to complete the luxury vibe.
The best seats in the house are the lounge chairs that are half-submerged in the pool. Theyll keep you cool in the hot desert sun and give you the best view of the aquarium.
The hotel also offers an opportunity to take a guided tour through their behind the scenes shark facility. One of their marine biologists will show you the inner workings of the shark tank. Youll also get to experience feeding time! They even give you a sharks tooth to take home as a souvenir.
Even if you dont want to go down the waterslide or sit by the pool, the award-winning shark aquarium can be viewed from one of the Golden Nuggets nearby restaurants.

Is The Shark Reef Aquarium Worth It
We certainly thought so! When we last made the trip, we had scored free tickets from the MyVegas game and thought the attraction was really neat. Having the ability to essentially walk the seafloor while being surrounded by sharks and other sea life was a phenomenal experience. In addition to the undersea tunnel, we found the illuminated jellyfish display and sea life petting area to be fun as well. In a city jam-packed with slot machines and other vices, we found the aquarium to be a nice escape. Especially if youre looking for things to do in Las Vegas with kids, Shark Reef is a winner.
The one drawback for those staying on the north end of the Strip is the distance you need to cover to get to Mandalay Bay. We recommend leveraging the free tram that runs from Excalibur south past Luxor to Mandalay to save some steps.
While the Shark Reef aquarium is a fun stop in itself, ensure to check out some of the other notable things to do at Mandalay Bay and nearby while on the south end of the Las Vegas Strip.

Zappos Las Vegas Nap Room Aquarium
The aquarium at the new Zappos headquarters in downtown Las Vegas is not the biggest aquarium on this list. At only 3,500 gallons its actually puny compared to all of the others Ive told you about. Having said that, however, in my opinion, this is one of the most cool aquariums in Las Vegas.
Zappos has built an entire nap room for its 1,500 employees. I love naps! Zappos is a company that believes in the productivity benefits of employees taking a 20-minute nap. So while it would be cool enough if Zappos built a nap room with an aquarium in it, thats not all they did.
They had the guys from the Animal Planet show Tanked come in and build a custom 25-foot saltwater aquarium that I like to call the Ultimate Nap Experience. They call it Sleeping with the Fishes.
The nap room consists of several reclining massage chairs that are each fitted into an alcove that is built entirely from acrylic. As you recline back youre staring up at the aquarium as it arches over you. Colorful tropical fish are swimming to the right of you, the left of you and above you as you doze off to sleep.
Unfortunately, the only way to get a nap in the aquarium nap room is to become an employee of Zappos but you can check out the aquarium itself by taking a 90 minute guided tour of Zappos HQ.
Tours are available Monday thru Thursdays: 9am, 11am and 3pm. Also on Fridays at 11am and 1pm. .

Take A Dive Into The World Of Shark Reef Aquarium In Las Vegas
Scuba diving the worlds oceans and seas is the most otherworldly experience one can have without leaving the earths exosphere. Diving sites where sharks abound add suspense to that sense of otherworldliness, but Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay now provides a dive in the desert with no danger of becoming dinner for razor-toothed predators. The Undersea Explorer VR Experience takes viewers on a voyage to the bottom of the sea, where several shark species are encountered.
First there are jungle habitats, aquatic environments, touchable stingrays and a shipwreck to explore. Meet a submerged Johnstons crocodile in the ancient sunken temple and learn how they hunt and hold prey with their 70 dagger-like teeth. Get winked at by a large Komodo dragon without being consumed in entirety by the voracious reptile. Encounter a Burmese python with a seize-and-squeeze mentality and witness piranha from a safe distance.
Exotic underwater life in the tanks such as zebra sharks swim in harmony with beak-bearing parrotfish and teeth-grinding French grunts. Queen triggerfish crowned with protective dorsal spines reside in reefs with fierce-fighting sergeant majors and French angelfish.
Its possible to lose track of time while zoning out on the cylindrical sea jellies tank. Nearby, lionfish get a brightly lit habitat fit for spectacular royal scale patterns. Starfish of all sizes room with a giant Pacific octopus skilled at hiding in plain sight.

Las Vegas Area Scuba Diving Sites
Las Vegas offers a plethora of activities for those who want to experience more than just casinos, nightclubs and shows. If you’re interested in scuba diving while in Vegas, there’s one diving site in the area where you can have an unforgettable diving experience.
Additional Thoughts And Considerations
When you are considering diving at an aquarium, in all cases, dont forget to ask for student, military, or senior citizen discounts if you are eligible.
Remember, most aquariums will not allow you to bring much more than your prescription dive mask after sanitization and maybe a dive computer. Some do not offer shower facilities. If they do, bring a towel.
Most of the dives are going to be about 20 feet deep. Consult your dive tables. Some divers suggest no dives less than 20 feet and 20 minutes should count. I believe the additional practice at buoyancy and fin control make them a worthy dive. They might not count for certification, but, they are yet another time to practice gearing up, going through your safety checks, and diving in a new environment. Check withDAN about flying the next day.
The prices in this article are the non-member prices in some cases, the fees for members to dive are slightly lower.
Many aquariums will allow you to hold a marriage proposal, prom proposal promposal, gender reveal all sorts of events. Some even allow underwater marriages with the bride and groom submerged and the wedding party watching from the dry side.
